Using The Solar Writer Atlas

When creating new charts in Solar Writer the place for the chart must be entered. Places are stored in an atlas, and in Solar Writer you have two atlases to choose from.

One atlas is the Solar Writer Atlas, which consists of a selection of place files which have been split up to cover various geographical regions, and each place has a latitude, longitude and standard time zone stored with it. Many countries also have time zone table data, which the Atlas uses to automatically find the correct time zone for that location on the date of the chart.

You access any Atlas when you are entering a new chart. See Casting a New Chart. Once you are in the "Chart Data Entry" screen and about to fill in the place for the chart you can use the Solar Writer Atlas to retrieve the place if you wish.

>> To open the Place Database dialog box

1.Click the Solar Writer Atlas option button

2.Select the Place button.

The list box on the left of the screen contains a list of all the place and country names which are stored in the currently selected place database file. The name of the currently selected place database file is displayed in the box to the right of the "File" button. The number of place records stored in this file is also shown in this status box. If there are no records in this file then the number of records will be zero, and no place names will appear in the list box. The number of places which have been selected for deletion or copying is shown in the box titled "Selected".
