Editing the Report

 

You can edit the current report file in the same manner as can be done in many other word-processors, and you can use the report viewer’s menu and toolbar buttons to control various editing actions, in addition to standard keyboard editing shortcuts.

>> To change page margins

1.In the File menu click on Page Margins

2.Enter new values in any of Top, Bottom, Left, Right boxes.

Margins can be defined in "Inches" and "Centimetres" as required.

Default Margins -- inches: Top, Bottom, Left and Right = 1.270, centimetres: Top, Bottom, Left and Right = 0.500

>> To change font attributes

1.Highlight the text you wish to change

2.Select Character... from the Format menu

3.Select the new font attributes that you require

You can also change the font name and size by using drop-down list boxes underneath the menu, and apply bold. italic or underlining by using the buttons.

>> To change paragraph attributes

1.Highlight the paragraph(s) you wish to change

2.Select Paragraph... from the “Format” menu

3.Select the required paragraph attributes that you require

You can also select tabs and indents using the mouse on the tab bar above the text area, and apply paragraph justification by clicking on one the justification buttons.

>> To cut, copy or paste text

1.Highlight the text, or place the cursor at the required insertion point

2.Select Cut, Copy or Paste from the “Edit” menu

>> To find and replace text

1.Select Find or Replace from the “Edit” menu.

Note: Any editing that you do within the Report Viewer will only affect the current report being displayed, and is lost as soon as you close the Report Viewer, unless you remember to save the report file first, so that it can be re-opened at a later time.

Whenever you re-generate the report, the original author’s text is restored. In order to make changes which will be reflected permanently in all report files generated for any further charts, you must edit the source text files and then recompile the report. However, this is only possible for reports that are supplied with the source text included. Some reports are not supplied with source text, so it is not possible to make permanent changes to the report text.

To find out whether the source text is available for the current report, check to see if there is a "Compile...” menu option in the “Report” menu. If this option is present, (and provided that the source text files are still present on your computer) then it is possible to edit the source text. If this option is not present, then it is not possible to edit the source text. See Editing and Creating Source Text for more information.
