Solar Writer has a comprehensive built-in help system, which can be invoked from anywhere within the program.
>> To invoke help from any screen
1.Press the F1 key.
This will call up a Windows help screen containing information about whichever screen or control currently has the focus. This is known as context sensitive help.
>> To invoke help directly from Solar Writer menu
1.In the Help menu click on Solar Writer User Guide
This will display the contents page of the built-in help system.
1.In the Help menu click on Keyword Search
This will display the keyword search screen from which it is possible to locate topics based on keywords that they contain (much like an index of a manual).
Once the help screen is displayed, it is possible to navigate through the text and topics as desired, and to select any of the options that are available in Windows help files. Some of these options are:-
•Contents tab - Takes you to the contents page
•Index tab - Takes you to the index section of the document to see keywords
•Search tab - Displays the keyword search screen
•Favorites tab - Allows you to store your favorite topics here for quick and easy access anytime
•Hide button - Hides the Navigation pane
•Locate button - Locates where in the Table of Contents the currently displayed topic is.
•Back button - Goes back to the last topic you looked at
•Forward button - Goes forward to the topic you looked at earlier
•<= and => buttons - Goes to the previous or next page
•Group button (in between the <= and => buttons) - Goes to the start of the parent chapter of the current topic
>> Knowing where in the program the topic is referring to
In some help topics at the top of the topic you will see a button called Location in Program. When you click this it will display a tiny window with the logical sequence of steps you need to take to get from the Main Window to the area in the program that the topic is referring to. If you are using the Solar Writer help on Esoteric Technologies website you can move this tiny window around on your screen to where you want it - click on it, then holding the mouse button down, drag it to where you want it and then release the mouse button.
For more information on these, and other standard features in Windows help files, see the "How to Use Help" option of the Help menu.
