In case of computer hardware failure, or other accidents, it is wise to have made backup copies of certain key files on your computer.
The Solar Writer program can normally be reloaded from its original installation diskettes should you ever experience a major problem. If your original diskettes have become corrupt or unusable for any other reason, then you can get a replacement copy by contacting you astrological software dealer, usually at a nominal cost.
However, to avoid losing any data files that you may have created or saved during the course of your usage of the Solar Writer program, (which therefore cannot be reloaded from the installation diskettes), you should create your own backup of any files which you create or edit in association with the program.
There are a variety of methods that can be used for backing up files, including simply copying them to diskettes, or using the DOS BACKUP command, or using the Windows Backup utility, for example.
Whichever method you use, you should backup all the files which are in the following directories
•Solar Writer USERDATA directory
•Solar Writer SOURCE directory
•Solar Writer REPORTS directory
If you backup these files, and keep you original installation diskettes, then you can recover from a disaster as follows.
•Re-install Solar Writer using the installation diskettes
•Restore the backup files for the Solar Writer USERDATA directory
•Restore the backup files for the Solar Writer SOURCE directory
•Restore the backup files for the Solar Writer REPORTS directory
It is recommended that you perform backups on a regular basis, or at least after those occasions when you have created large numbers of new charts or maps etc.
